Bethel Park to open $3.5 million Splash Park Saturday, May 25

Bethel Park’s new Splash Park will open on Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m. with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony being held at 10:45 a.m. featuring local, state and federal officials. The facility is located on Park Avenue next to the Bethel Park Community Center.

The facility will be open from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. for opening day with free rubber duckies being given to children while supplies last.

“This $3.5 million project was part of our strategic plan to upgrade all of our recreational facilities with each park having its own unique attraction,” said Council President John Oakes. “We hope that it will be something our residents as well as those in the South Hills area will enjoy.”

A groundbreaking was held for the facility April 2023.

“This project was completed in a little over a year from when we broke ground,” said Public Works Director and Splash Park Project Manager Susan Dolinar. “It features two areas including one for younger children with a river component to float toys as well as a larger area for all ages with various spray toys and other unique features. It’s also ADA accessible.”

The facility also includes a snack stand and unisex, air-conditioned restrooms.

“Along with Municipal funds, we received two grants from the state and county as well as various community fundraisers to cover project costs,” said Bethel Park Manager Kristen Denne. “We’ve already received extremely positive feedback from the community regarding the Splash Park and look forward to everyone enjoying it for years to come!”

Regular Splash Park hours will be 12 – 7 p.m., Sunday – Saturday (7 days a week), with an earlier 11 a.m. opening for Seasonal Members. Memberships and Day Passes are available at the Bethel Park Community Center located at 5151 Park Ave.  Memberships and/or passes must be purchased prior to visiting the Splash Park.

The facility will be fully staffed with Recreation seasonal employees.
