Whispering Souls Paranormal Investigations (WSPI) is a team of experienced paranormal investigators who create a calm, comfortable and enjoyable environment for their customers while giving them a memorable one-on-one experience. Upcoming events include an investigation at the Bethel Park Schoolhouse Arts & History Center and a free “Ghost Hunting 101: Haunted Teachings” class at the Bethel Park Public Library.
WSPI offers investigations and educational sessions at a number of locations throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York. Pennsylvania spots include Castle Blood in Monessen; the Bethel Park Schoolhouse Arts & History Center; Hill View Manor in New Castle; Old Economy Village in Ambridge; the Samuel Miller Mansion in Columbia; the Grand Midway Hotel in Windber; the Bethel Park Public Library; and the Jefferson Hills Library.
WSPI Owner Patty Henderson said that many individuals come to the events to learn more about the history of these historical sites that they investigate.
“We like to create an intimate setting at our events,” she said. “Our customers investigate an entire location that we divide into sections. We have two of our staff investigators in each section with our equipment staged for the guests to use. When a group enters a specific area, they fully investigate it with or without the help of our staff, discuss their findings with us and then they move through to a different area of the location only by their choice.”
Local guests as well as those as far away as Texas and Canada have joined in on their investigations!

BACKGROUND
While Henderson doesn’t claim to be an empath or psychic, she said that she’s always had an interest in the paranormal ever since she was a young girl.
“I’ve always been into the unknown,” she said. “I used to stay at my grandmother’s house and at age 7, I played with a little girl there. My family thought it was an imaginary friend when I told them about her; however, one day my grandmother woke up during the night and saw the girl too. I was young and didn’t know that I was talking to someone who wasn’t physically there, but once my grandmother saw her, my family believed me.”
Henderson doesn’t claim to be an expert in the paranormal field though.
“I’ve just always had a strong interest in paranormal investigations. And, I’ve been investigating for the past 20 years,” she said.
This interest led her to becoming involved with paranormal investigations as part of a team early on; then around 2015, she worked for a guided ghost hunting company located in Pittsburgh, PA. The company owner later asked her to become a partner in the business.
“While I did continue investigation work with them, I also assumed financial administrative duties as well,” she said. “But as things changed there, I decided to venture out on my own last September (2022) and start my company, Whispering Souls Paranormal. Now that I am the sole owner, I can put my own twist on events.”
Whispering Souls Paranormal has 19 team members including Henderson and her son, Ricky.
“When people found out that I started my own paranormal investigation business, they followed along with me. I’m also always searching for new locations to investigate too!” she said.
She specifically seeks out historical locations.
“Our mission is to also give back to the community,” she said. “It’s nice when we can hold an event at a historical location and help provide needed funding for the facility upkeep. Our events also help to promote these locations and bring more awareness to them.”
SERVICES
Whispering Souls Paranormal hosts paranormal investigations from February – November working out of numerous locations consisting of primarily historical places varying in size. Investigations are generally held on Saturday evenings from 7-11 p.m. Fridays are sometimes booked as well if Saturday evenings are full. Fall is their busiest season when they run events every weekend beginning in September.
Pricing per person is dependent on the specific location; group sizes vary per site. Those interested should visit the company website (below) for information. All available sites to investigate are listed there.
“If someone really would like to get into one of our sites and the event is sold out, we’ll try to get them in,” said Henderson. “We also break down larger groups say of 60 people into smaller groups of 10-15 so that they get the best personal experience. This is a fun activity and something different to do on the weekend!”
Along with group paranormal investigations, WSPI also offers:
- House or property investigations. “Lots of times, a house is just older and not haunted and we try to debunk that for the owners,” said Henderson. “People don’t understand what they can’t see, so we try to put their mind at ease.” Many times, this service is free of charge.
- Private group investigations.
EQUIPMENT
WSPI brings along investigation equipment such as:
K2 Meter – Measures the electromagnetic field that spirits give off.
Laser Grid – A laser pointer with a modified tip that splits the laser beam into a grid of many dots to capture a shadow person or an entity manifesting.
Thermo Camera – Measures heat and cool signatures without touching anything.
Spirit Box – Scans through radio frequencies at a high rate of speed creating white noise that helps spirits communicate. Using headphones with a Spirit Box is called The Estes Method.
SLS Camera – Detects motion on things your eye can’t see.
They also bring a variety of light up toys that can be easily manipulated. Guests can also bring cell phones, flashlights or their own equipment.

WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE BETHEL PARK RESIDENTS TO KNOW?
“We’ve lived in Bethel Park since 2004. We moved from Jefferson Hills (where I grew up) to Bethel Park because I wanted to make sure that our son was in a good school district,” said Henderson. “I’m also grateful for the support I’ve received since starting my business from the Bethel Park community…particularly from the Schoolhouse Arts & History Center and the Bethel Park Library.”
She’s also proud of the company logo she created.
“It signifies a door to the spirit world as well as a new beginning for my team and I!” said Henderson. “Many people are fascinated about what I do and love to ask questions…they refer to me as the ‘ghost girl!’”
Henderson lives in Bethel Park with her son. She wrote a piece in the 1st volume of the Feminine Macabre titled, “Through the Eyes of a Female Paranormal Business Owner” and she’s appeared in several magazine articles discussing paranormal phenomena as well as being a special guest on various podcasts.
